An early combination cash register/adding machine.  Has most of original label, device for a roll of<br>paper that threads through slot to pull out on top. Sort of a pre-mechanical cash register/<br>adding machine apparatus. The instructions are worn around the edges but fully readable.<br>It tells you how to load the paper, engage the cutter, and anything else you would need to<br>know to operate this as intended. The drawer opens via a lever inside the desk. There is a large spring behind the drawer that propels it forward when the lever is engaged. <br><br><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Provenance and additional information</span>: This register is unique in that it also comes with provenance. We are including a photocopy of the original sales/inspection receipt signed by F. B. Patterson, the president of the National Cash Register Company, Dayton, Ohio. (We only have the copy that goes with this and not the original.) Among other information on the receipt is the registration number: 2072754, Size 45, the inspector's stamp, and "This register built for E R Howland Walton NY". It is dated 3-27-13. <br><br><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Dimensions</span>: The measurements are 17.5 inches wide, 8.5 inches high, and 19.5 inches deep. Please note that this is solid oak and rather heavy (See shipping note). <br><br><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Condition</span>: Excellent original condition as per photos. There is a mark or stain on the top and a little bit of white paint on the bottom right front corner, as you can see in the pictures. We like our antiques with their original patina, and well-earned (metaphorical) warts and wrinkles in tact, so we did not even try to clean it. If you want to polish it up or even refinish it, that will be up to the new owner. We do not know if the instructions are generic or particular to this model, but it mentions two things we did not find evidence: a combination for the lock and a bell ringing when the drawer opens. It does not look like they are missing as far as we can tell, but we wanted to mention it just in case so you are aware of that. <br><br> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Shipping</span>: We are estimating shipping weight at about 40 lbs. If we can pack it safely and keep the weight a bit lighter we will do so and refund the difference if the final packed weight comes to less. Insurance is included and we do not add a fee for packing materials or handling. You can also pick this up at our Central NY State location by appointment.
