1960s
Framed Xerox Promotion of
Picasso Owl Print
An exquisite piece of art
Near Mint Condition
Description:
In the mid 1960s, when the growth of the Xerox plain paper copier was starting to boom, Xerox Corporation began a business-to-business advertising campaign promoting the quality of the copies made on its machines. One of their advertisements compared a Picasso owl print with a copy made on a Xerox machine.
As part of this campaign, they also did a direct mailing to business people of a Xerox copy of this Picasso owl print. This is the copy I received. The quality of the copy was amazing. I was so impressed that I kept the Xerox copy of the print and had it framed a few years later.
· This auction is for a custom framed 1960s era promotional Xerox copy of one of Pablo Picasso’s most famous Owl drawings, originally dated 3.4.54.
· The image measures 8” by 8” and the outside dimensions of the frame are 14 ½” by 14 ½”
· The custom frame itself cost over $85 in 1970. The frame is made of distressed barn wood with a burlap covered mat and a bright red mat insert for contrast. (See second photo below for detail of this exquisite frame and mat)
· This is a beautiful work of art ready for display in a prominent place.
I hate to put reserves on auction items, but this framed print has an appraised auction value of $150 to $200 because of its history and rarity. I have placed a very low reserve in comparison to its value.
Condition:
· The print is in Near MINT Condition
· The frame is in fine condition with a tiny bit of minor wear.
· The paper covering on the back of the frame has a few tears and is loose from the back in a couple places
· Other than noted above, there are no chips, dents, scratches, breaks, cracks or other flaws.
This delightful piece of art may not be an "original Picasso" but it has a wonderful, fascinating history and will look fabulous on your wall.
